About The String Games

When four-year-old Josh is abducted and murdered during a family holiday, Nim, aged ten, becomes an only child. How does Nim recover from this experience when no one will talk about the trauma, least of all her mother?

As a teenager, Nim’s sense of isolation causes her to make risky decisions. She becomes friends with a group who find it easy to manipulate her. The humiliation that results causes Nim to reinvent herself by returning to her given name of Imogen.

Working in London, Imogen is swamped by feelings of unresolved grief over the loss of Josh. She decides to return to the town in France where she last saw him. There she reconnects with Maxime, a boy she knew from the campsite, and together they discover more about the circumstances of Josh’s death. How will Imogen deal with this new information and what implications does this have for her future?
